Frequently Asked Questions:
How much do your wedding cakes cost? My base price per serving for buttercream cakes is $2.75. Fondant cakes are $3.25 a serving. Each tier may be a different flavor at no additional cost. Most cakes couples have me do fall under those prices. However, a highly decorated cake, intricate work or gumpaste flowers may increase the cost. You will also have the option of adding kitchen cakes to any main wedding cake over 100 servings. Kitchen cakes are double layer sheet cakes that when cut and plated will look just like your main wedding cake. They are filled and frosted with a simple border. They are not meant for display, they simply are put in the venues kitchen until they are cut and served. Kitchen cakes are $1.50 per serving. It is definitely a way to save on your budget.
How much is your deposit and when is the balance due? The deposit is $50.00 to hold your wedding date. You do not have to pick out your exact design, flavors and servings until closer to your date. The $50.00 deposit simply confirms that Cakes By K. Renee will be creating your wedding cake. Your deposit is subtracted from your contract balance and the remainder is due 3 weeks prior to your wedding.
Do you have a minimum order? My minimum serving is 50.
What is the delivery and set up fee?
Within Jackson County : $ 25.00
Mason, Hillsdale, Chelsea : $ 35.00
Lansing and Ann Arbor : $ 50.00
Other locations : please inquire
That delivery and set up fee includes delivery to your venue site, constructing your cake, and placing flowers/cake knives/table decorations (supplied by couple).
Do you allow pick up instead of delivery? No, we do all delivering and assembling of our cakes. That way we are sure that our cakes are completed exactly how our couples are envisioning.
Do you do cakes other than wedding? My main focus is on wedding cakes. I enjoy getting to meet my couples, design a cake around their interests and finally create it for their special day. While wedding cakes are my main focus, if I have a date available, I may be able to accomodate other types of cakes. My minimum servings do apply to any cakes that I book.
When should I book my wedding cake? This mostly depends on the time of year you are getting married. If you are getting married during the months of May thru October, you may need to book earlier than November-April weddings. Typically most couples book their cake with me between 6 months to a year before their date (again, depending on the month of the wedding).
How many cakes do you take on a weekend? I do up to 2 wedding cakes on a weekend. However, this depends on the first cake booked. If the first cake booked for a weekend is large or requires extra time for the details, I may consider myself booked with only 1 cake. I never compromise quality for quantity. I want each cake that I complete to be excellent and that is exactly what each of my couples deserve. To check for availability just email : cakesbykrenee@msn.com or call 1(517)529-4202.
Are you licensed? Yes, your cake will be baked and created in our commercially licensed kitchen.
What is the best way to reach you? Truthfully, the quickest way to contact me is by email. I do have a direct phone line to Cakes By K. Renee but most of the time you will reach my voicemail. When I am working on a cake or out of my office, I set my phone to go directly to voicemail. My computers are often on during both day and evening hours even when I am not in my office, allowing me the opportunity to respond quicker.
Am I able to make an appointment to meet with you? Absolutely! I hold tastings once a month where my couples are able to meet with me, discuss plans, look through idea books, look through my portfolios, see sample cakes and of course...try some different flavors. It's a great time to go over ideas and plans for creating the perfect cake for you.
